Behind The Iron Curtain: East Berlin with a History Expert

Join me on this private tour and discover what life was like in 1980s Berlin. I studied history to Ph.D. level and the Holocaust was my specialty, so I have plenty of local and historical insights to share with you. Let’s explore life behind the Iron Curtain by visiting some of the period’s most infamous structures. Buildings such as the Stasi HQ, Karl-Marx-Allee or those around Alexanderplatz hold plenty of the city’s secrets and I am ready to share them with you. Starting in Alexanderplatz, which is steeped in history we will uncover stories of Berlin’s past. See important buildings and hear how they played a part in shaping Berlin’s history. The Berlin Wall Memorial is a must-see. Take in this impressive structure with remnants of the original wall and hear tragic stories of how victims tried to escape. We will end our tour at Brandenburg Gate, which is the symbol of Germany division and reunification. I will show you the exact stop where former US president Ronald Regan gave his famous speech. As someone who moved to West-Berlin in the late 1980s, I've experienced what it meant to cross the border from West to East, including the chicanery by the East-German border control, so I have plenty of personal insights to share during this tour. I am happy to personalize this tour to suit your wishes. Just contact me if you have any requests.
